John Sayles film "Honeydripper" to be screened on February 17, 2012

ALBANY, NY (01/27/2012)(readMedia)-- "Honeydripper" (United States, 2007, 124 minutes, color, directed by John Sayles, starring Danny Glover, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Charles S. Dutton) will be shown on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center, on the University at Albany's uptown campus. Sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute, the screening is free and open to the public.

John Sayles, award-winning director and screenwriter, and Schenectady native, presents a musical fable about the death of the blues and the dawn of rock-and-roll. "Honeydripper" is the tale of a rural Black community and an Alabama roadhouse that is losing its customers to a rival business. Roger Ebert called it, "Rich with characters and flowing with music."

In addition to screening "Honeydripper" the Writers Institute will also screen Sayles's most recent film "Amigo" on Friday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center, on the UAlbany uptown campus. The screenings are in conjunction with John Sayles's appearance at the Writers Institute on Monday, February 27. Sayles will discuss his film career and read from his new novel, A Moment in the Sun (2011) at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center on UAlbany's uptown campus. He will also hold an informal seminar at 4:15 p.m. in the Assembly Hall, Campus Center on the uptown campus.
