Judges Find New Goodies for Tea at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/20/2014)(readMedia)-- Sally Kilkenny of Granger won First Place Overall in the Let's Have Tea contest judged Saturday at the 2014 Iowa State Fair.

Kilkenny also nabbed first place in the Tea Sandwich class. Debbie Wise of Des Moines won second place, Marcia Trevillyan of West Des Moines claimed third place and an honorable mention was given to Linda Asbille of Indianola.

In the Tea Cookie class, Natalie Ridgway of Johnston won first place Teresa Little of Des Moines placed second, and Pamela Reynolds of Norwalk received third place.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance and creativity. Both class winners were awarded a luncheon with the Des Moines Women's Club for their first-place recipes.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 226 divisions, 883 classes and over 10,500 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
