July 1 Marks Deadline for Iowa State Fair Competitions

DES MOINES, IA (06/23/2010)(readMedia)-- It's not too late to enter many competitive events at the 2010 Iowa State Fair, set August 12-22. While many departments' entry deadlines are July 1, late entries will be accepted until July 8 (additional entry fees apply).

Premium books, entry forms and the online entry system can be accessed by visiting www.iowastatefair.org/competition/howtoenter.php. After completing the form and information, entrants will receive an e-mail confirmation that their entry has been sent to the proper department. Individuals using this system should be aware that they can only use MasterCard or Visa for payment of their online submission. Entrants should also note that their entries can be submitted by mail as well.

Several new competitions are being offered this year, including 53 in the food department. Many of the new contests offer lucrative prizes. For example, winners of the new K.C. Masterpiece Real Deal Recipe Contest sponsored by Hormel Foods will be given tickets to the Friday, August 13 Keith Urban Grandstand show. In the livestock department, miniature llamas will make their debut at the Iowa State Fair while Society, Quarter Horse and Open Western competitions return as Fair-time events.
