HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (03/26/2013)(readMedia)-- On Friday, March 8, 2013, Justin Michael Pugh, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, was elected President of the Student Government for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Justin has served on the Student Senate and the Student Finance Committee. He plays defense on the varsity soccer team and is a member of the swim team. Justin is Treasurer of the social fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon and is a member of the honorary society Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), the Society of 1791 leadership program, and the Military Leadership and National Security Studies Program. An economics and commerce major, Justin is a graduate of Monacan High School and is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph W. Pugh of Richmond.
As President, Justin is responsible for promoting the general welfare of the student body, representing student interests to the administration and Board of Trustees, and directing the operation of the Student Government. Student government, first introduced at the College in 1886, is an historic and respected institution.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
