MORRISTOWN, NJ (05/08/2013)(readMedia)-- Karen Johnson of Pinebrook, N.J., has successfully defended her dissertation at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., to earn her doctorate in educational leadership. Johnson's dissertation is entitled, "Are Two Better Than One? Implications of the Co-Teaching Service Delivery Model On High Stakes, Standards-Based Assessments for Students With Educational Disabilities." As of July 2005, she has been the principal of Paterson's Eastside High School.

"The philosophy of servant leadership through the doctoral program has become a personal tenet," said Johnson.

Johnson began teaching in September 1977 at East Orange Catholic High School. Two years later, she joined the staff at Eastside High School. For 18 years, she taught physical education, health, driver's education, and special education. After her teaching tenure concluded, she was promoted to department chairperson of special education in 1995. She was appointed vice principal at Eastside 1996. She graduated from William Paterson College (now University) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Masters Degree.

The doctoral program at CSE, which is dedicated to preparing leaders who are committed to social justice and ethical practice, began in August 2007. "Integrated into all course work and learning activities are the central values and beliefs necessary for school leaders to function as morally purposeful stewards for their school communities," states Msgr. Thomas J. McDade, Ed.D., course of study coordinator for the CSE doctoral program in educational leadership. "This philosophy of servant leadership represents a major shift from the traditional paradigm of school leaders as managers of resources which is so prevalent in today's practices."
