Katarina "Katy" Fader Lilly, M.D, recipient of the Young Alumna Achievement Award

DURHAM, NH (10/08/2012)(readMedia)-- Katarina "Katy" Fader Lilly, M.D., of Durham, will be honored Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, during the University of New Hampshire Alumni Association's annual Alumni Achievement Awards Ceremony recognizing eight outstanding alumni who have made notable contributions to the UNH community, the state or the nation.

A member of the class of 2000, Dr. Lilly is the recipient of the Young Alumna Achievement Award. The former UNH gymnast, who returned to New Hampshire in 2007, has been an active participant in the university community. As the volunteer physician for the Women's Gymnastics Team, Dr. Lilly attends nearly every home meet. A regular panelist for the UNH Health Professions Seminar, she also invites students interested in practicing medicine to observe at her medical practice. Her professional accomplishments include an excellence in pediatrics award, medical volunteer work in Kenya, and the establishment of healthGIVES, a "giving circle" of medical providers that supports local nonprofits; the group raised more than $40,000 its first year. It seems fitting that Dr. Lilly and her family once dressed for a fundraising event as The Incredibles, the Disney family whose mission is to do good. Already this young aluum can say, Mission accomplished.

Other 2012 award winners include the recipients of the Alumni Meritorious Service Award, Frank E. "Ted" Wheatley '76 of Winchester, Mass., Frederick "Fritz" Armstrong III '57 of South Wellfleet, Mass.; Cheryl Kuebler Dickson '63 of Manchester; and Deborah Narinkevicuis Overdeput '82 of Salem. The Profile of Service Award recipients are Valerie "Val" Wilcox England '54 of Durham, and Dorothy "Dot" Taylor Sheehan '71 of Hampton. The Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement goes to Margaret-Alice "M.A." Haggart Lucas '64 of Bethesda, Md.

The awards will be presented by Alumni Association student scholarship recipients.  "Bringing student and alumni leaders together is a special way to commemorate this occasion," says Steve Donovan, associate vice president of advancement and executive director of the Alumni Association.

Those interested in attending the UNH Alumni Association Awards event can RSVP online by October 22: www.alumni.unh.edu/alumniawards or call Megan Meagher at (603) 862-3852.
