Keene Kelderman of Palm Beach Awarded Paul Blanchette Chemistry Current Scholarship

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (02/06/2014)(readMedia)-- Keene Kelderman, a Palm Beach, Fl., native and junior at St. Mary's College of Maryland, was recently awarded the Paul Blanchette Chemistry Current Scholarship. Established in 2012, the scholarship fund benefits rising seniors in chemistry.

At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Kelderman is studying chemistry, mathematics and religious studies. After graduation, Kelderman plans to earn a master's degree in marine or environmental engineering in Holland. While there, he hopes to explore Europe and learn Dutch, his father's language. His goal is to develop new technologies that will allow countries to adapt to rising sea levels and other environmental issues.

Outside the classroom, Kelderman is president of Circle K and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa. He is interested in rock climbing, playing cards with his friends and working to reduce the college's carbon footprint as a sustainability intern for the Sustainability Office.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, in ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
