Kenneth Smith named Missouri S&T Honors Academy Fellow
ROLLA, MO (05/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Kenneth Smith of Florissant, Mo., a senior at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), has been named an Honors Academy Fellow for 2011 by the university.
Smith received the honor during Missouri S&T's Honors Banquet Sunday, May 1.
To qualify for the designation, students must be members of Missouri S&T's Honors Academy, complete 12 hours of honors course credit and an honors senior thesis, and maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5.
Smith will graduate from Missouri S&T on Saturday, May 7, with a bachelor of science degree in physics. He has been a member of the Society of Physics Students for three years. In his honors thesis, Smith developed a new process for growing nanowires. Nanowires are sub-atomic wires that may one day be used to connect components into extremely small circuits.
After graduation, Smith plans to pursue a master's degree in electrical engineering at Missouri S&T, where he hopes to conduct further research into the use of nanotechnology for sensor development.
