Kentner and Tobias Earn Capital One Academic All-District Honors
CHARLESTON, WV (02/03/2011)(readMedia)-- Seniors Lindsey Kentner (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wpakoneta) and Ali Tobias (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) were two of four West Virginia Conference representatives on the District 2 Capital One Academic All-District Team, selected Thursday afternoon.
Kentner, who holds a 4.0 grade point average in pre-med/biology was selected to the First Team. She is currently second in the WVIAC with a 19.5 point per game average, which ranks her 14th in NCAA Division II for the category. A 2009-10 First Team All-WVIAC selection Kentner is having another outstanding year as a defender averaging three steals per game to rank in the top-20 nationally.
Tobias is second to none in the WVIAC or for UC as she leads the charge for a Golden Eagles team that is 10th in Division II with a 17.8 assist per game average. The floor general for Charleston also carries a 4.0 GPA in physical education to land a spot on the All-District Third Team.
The teammates combine to offer the most prolific three-point scoring threat in the West Virginia Conference as Kenter and Tobias are tied for 30th in the country with a .418 three-point field goal percentage.
The University of Charleston is ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic Region and was one of only two teams (Kutztown University) to place more than one player on the three Academic All-Distric Teams.
Capital One Academic All-District Selections
The 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Student-athletes on the Academic All-District Second and Third teams (if applicable) do not advance to the national ballot.
