Kern named new Northwest guard instructor

SENATOBIA, MS (04/26/2018) Kendall Kern of Lewisburg has been named the new guard instructor for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Ranger Marching Band, according to band director Jared Brownlee.

Kern is a 2016 graduate of Lewisburg High School. She is a sophomore currently studying Secondary English Education at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. She plans to become a high school English teacher. Kern was a part of the Lewisburg color guard for five years. She was guard captain for two years. They won three state marching band championships during her time on the guard.

Kern also participated in the Spring guard unit, "Merge" which was made up of guard members from Olive Branch and Lewisburg. They participated all over Mississippi and in championships held in Pearl. She was first chair guard in the Mississippi All-State Lions Band for four years and captain for two years, traveling with the band to Europe and Hawaii.

"Color guard has been such a big part of my life and I love it. I am looking forward to working with the students at Northwest," Kern said.

"We welcome Kendall and look forward to her being a valuable part of the Northwest Ranger Band staff," Brownlee said. He stated that Kern will be on hand for 2018-19 guard auditions that will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at the Band Hall on the Senatobia campus.
