Kernel Creations Crown Won By Knoxville Cook

DES MOINES, IA (08/19/2018) (readMedia)-- April Olson of Knoxville won first place and a $500 gift card in the Super Special Corn Creations competition judged Wednesday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Participants in this contest were at least 16 years of age or older, and have either a physical or intellectual disability, or both.

Olson's win also comes with a $500 charitable donation to an organization of her choice.

Joy Daisy Rector of Des Moines claimed second place and John Kyhl of Johnston earned this place.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
