LATHAM, NY (05/15/2012)(readMedia)-- Rotterdam resident Kevin Ferreira, an Iraq War veteran, has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the New York Army National Guard.
Ferreira, a helicopter pilot, serves as the operations officer of the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade, which is headquartered in Latham at the Albany International Airport.
During the week he works as the commander of Army Aviation Support Facility #3 at the airport.
Ferreira joined the Army National Guard in 1994 after being commissioned through the University of Massachusetts Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He served as an artillery fire support officer and battery executive officer prior to transferring to the Alaska Army National Guard and becoming a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot in 1997.
He served as a full-time National Guard officer in Alaska as a flight facility commander and commander of Headquarters Company of the 1st Battalion 207th Aviation Regiment.
In 2001 Ferreira transferred to the New York Army National Guard and served with the 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation as a helicopter company commander, battalion logistics officer and battalion operations officer. He deployed to Bosnia in 2002 and served as the operations officer for the battalion and Task Force Jester in Iraq in 2009. He has served in the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade since 2010.
Ferreira and his wife Skeeter have two daughters: Shea, age 7 and Elcie, age 5.
