SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Kevin Joslyn of Sutton was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is a Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Joslyn was one of 15 outstanding senior students to receive the award during the University's Homecoming Weekend.
A Communication major with a minor in General Business, Joslyn has served as a two-year executive board member for the student group Community Action Rewards Everyone (CARE). He's also a two-time leader of the University's Bear Tracks program, which is an intensive three day program through which First Year Students begin their college experience early. Joslyn has also volunteered within the community as a teacher's aide and student mentor to various Springfield public schools. Currently, he is completing an internship with local political and corporate relations specialist Tony Cignoli.
