Kevin Parma Receives Skookum Award at Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/25/2013)(readMedia)-- Kevin Parma of Peconic, N.Y., was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Parma was one of 15 outstanding seniors receiving awards during ceremonies on the Springfield, Mass. campus.

A double major in Accounting and Finance, Parma is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies. He plays on the varsity soccer team, having spent two years serving as captain. While with the team, he received numerous accolades including All-Commonwealth Coast Conference, ECAC New England Player of the Week, the Coaches Award, and CoSIDA/Capital One First Team Academic All-Region and All-American. Parma also serves as a member of Captains Council, a group with a goal to improve leadership among student athletes and maintain a high level of student success.

During the past two summers, Parma has had two internship experiences. His first was a wealth management internship at Merrill Lynch in Garden City, N.Y., where he was given the opportunity to work under two senior advisors. Most recently, he worked in Hartford, Conn., as a financial analyst for UnitedHealth Group.

Western New England University is a private, independent, coeducational institution founded in 1919.
