Kiersten Johnson Receives Kyle Rodgers and Nancy Zakrewski Groff Memorial Scholarships

MILLERSVILLE, PA (06/13/2014)(readMedia)-- Kiersten A. Johnson, Lancaster, Pa., has been selected to receive both the Kyle Rodgers Scholarship and the Nancy Zakrewski Groff Memorial Scholarship. Johnson will graduate from J.P. McCaskey High School and will attend Millersville University of Pennsylvania this fall to study psychology.

The Kyle Rodgers Scholarship was established by friends of the University, Rick and Jessica Rodgers, in memory of their son Kyle who passed away in 2011 at age 24. Prior to his death, Kyle was pursuing his degree in psychology at Harrisburg Area Community College. The renewable award in the amount of $497 this year is to be awarded to a student from the Lancaster region pursuing a degree in psychology.

The Zakrewski Groff Award is an award to recognize academic excellence awarded through the generosity of Jeffrey Groff, Nancy's husband, who established the award in memory of his wife. Both Mr. and Mrs. Groff are Millersville University Alumni. The non-renewable scholarship is for $600.

In high school, Johnson completed courses at the honors, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement levels. She was on the Distinguished Honor Roll in 11th and 12th grades and participated in the senior art shows at her school. Additionally, Johnson was active in the Gay Straight Alliance during her first two years of high school.
