KNOXVILLE TN (04/30/2010)(readMedia)-- June will soon be here and with it comes the American Lung Association in Tennessee's annual Knoxville Lung Walk on June 5 at Volunteer Landing. Check-in opens at 9 am and the walk is at 10 am.
The event spokesperson is Lori Tucker, news anchor from WATE Channel 6 and the chairperson is Dr. Ty Prince from the Allergy Asthma and Sinus Center.
Formerly known as the Asthma Walk, the event is non-competitive and is sponsored by Pfizer, Allergy Asthma and Sinus Center, McDonalds, Krispy Kreme, Sports Animal, Papa Murphys, TN Radon, Star 102.1, Pepsi UT Medical Center, BCBS, Knology, Genentech, Mercy Hospital , Boehringer Ingelheim, Astra Zeneca, Comcast, Pulmonary Sleep Consultants, Kindred Hospital and Starbucks.
Proceeds from the Lung Walk go to lung health programs, services and research.
In addition to having the opportunity to participate in allergy and asthma testing, participants will be able to meet others in the community, climb the Rock Wall, explore the exhibitor booths, enjoy refreshments, hear great music and much more.
For those unable to actually participate in the walk portion of the event, there is also an option to be a "virtual walker." Regardless of the walker's participation type, there is a variety of fundraising incentives available to reward the walker's efforts.
"Helping Others Breathe" event signs are available for purchase at $15 each. The signs will be placed along the walk route and are personalized to allow you to honor a loved one struggling with lung disease, remember someone who has lost the fight against lung disease, celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary, or show recognition for an extraordinary person in your life. Visit www.alatn.org to purchase a sign.
Members of the community are invited to register a team and/or themselves at www.midlandlung.org/walk. For more information, call 800-LUNG-USA or e-mail Olivia Weiss at oweiss@alatn.org.
