Lock Haven University honors student explains research on seahorses

LOCK HAVEN, PA (12/12/2011)(readMedia)-- On Wednesday, November 30, three seniors in Lock Haven University's Global Honors Program presented their capstone projects. Kristen Marie Stauffer, who will earn a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology, presented "Environment Performance and Order Responses in Hippocampus Erectus." The Drums resident conducted her research through an independent study with Professor Kenneth Thompson to evaluate the behavior of seahorses in response to various environmental conditions.

Ms. Stauffer plans to attend graduate school. Her parents are Ronald and Mary Stauffer.

These poster presentations were the culmination of the students' independent research. Each of the students delivered an oral summary of her research and answered questions about her findings.

Other presenters were Caroline Sweeney of Brielle, N.J. and Ekaterina Ivanova of Lock Haven, Pa.

Professor Jacqueline M. Whitling, interim director of the Global Honors Program, welcomed guests to the capstone presentations.

"We would like to congratulate all of our fall graduating seniors on a successful completion of their Global Honors projects tonight," Whitling said. "We wish them the best of luck and success as they move on to their future endeavors."

The mission of Global Honors Program at Lock Haven University is to engage distinctly qualified students in an enhanced learning experience unique to the University and other Educational Institutions. The program fosters close student-professor interaction, provides invaluable peer interaction, instills leadership values, and introduces students to the aspects of a global world.
