KUTZTOWN, PA (02/19/2020) Kutztown University chief of police John Dillon is pleased to announce the recent graduation of deputy chief of police David Drezek from the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University. Deputy chief Drezek has successfully completed and graduated the 10-week Staff and Command program held in Doylestown, Pa., held Feb. 14. The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in 27 core blocks of instruction.

The major topics of study include: leadership, human resources, employee relations organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, budgeting and resource allocation. Each student is academically-challenged through written examinations, projects and quizzes in addition to a staff study paper that are required parts of the curriculum.

The Center for Public Safety was established at Northwestern University in 1936 with the specific goal of expanding university-based education and training for the Law Enforcement Community.

"I am humbled to be the first Kutztown University officer to attend the School of Police Staff and Command," Drezek said. "I am grateful to Chief Dillon, vice president (Jesus) Peña and President (Kenneth S.) Hawkinson for this wonderful educational experience. The curriculum was challenging, but the reward of receiving the Northwestern University certification is very satisfying."

The KU police department anticipates a variety of benefits from deputy chief Drezek's attendance at this program and are extremely proud of his accomplishments.

"We are excited to have deputy chief Drezek back at the department after being gone for the 10-week period. We look forward to his leadership and fresh ideas obtained from his educational experience," said chief Dillon.

Deputy chief Drezek is completing his second year of service at Kutztown University. Drezek served 21 years for the North Providence Police Department in Rhode Island. He held command-level positions in both the Patrol & Detective Division, working with federal, state and local law enforcement.

Prior to his appointment at KU, Drezek served as a lieutenant for the Worcester State University Police Department for three years, during which he managed the day-to-day operations of the Second Watch Division.

Drezek earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. He will complete his Master of Science in Criminal Justice at RWU in 2019.
