Kyle Szives has been selected as Central Penn College's student of the month.

SUMMERDALE, PA (01/18/2012)(readMedia)-- Kyle Szives has earned the Student of the Month honor for January. Szives is an information technology major with a concentration in applications development.

Coming from Millersburg, Pa., Szives started at Central Penn in the summer of 2010. Before he came here, he was a network administration major at HACC. His very first information technology professor who "lit the fire" and got him interested in the field was Professor Brad Kessler. The professor that added fuel to the fire was Professor Jeremy Dixon.

"It was easy to nominate Kyle," says Professor Dixon. "Kyle is an excellent student and most importantly, he is kind and genuinely tries to help with any situation he can. Further, he is thoughtful and articulate. As with many students, he works hard to balance his work and school responsibilities. We are excited to see Kyle graduate and start his full-time career with Gibraltar Technologies."

With his internship at Gibraltar with electronic medical records, Szives works with template development. Szives' motivation to work hard, get through school and retain his position at Gibraltar comes from his past experience.

"I don't want to have a sucky job," says Szives. "That's what keeps me trying. After I had this physically demanding manual labor job, I realized that I'd rather be tired with my brain than exhausted with my body."

Outside of his education and career life, Szives is a casual video game player. As far as goals, he intends to continue working at his ideal career, earn his master's degree and finally maintain a well-paying job. Though he does not believe his goals will take him out of Pennsylvania, he would like to venture outside of Harrisburg for a larger city and a broader job environment.
