LIME + BROOKLINE ESTABLISH TOWN-WIDE PARKING CORRALS

The Town of Brookline along with Lime and local businesses collaborate to create mobility hubs in downtown business areas.

BROOKLINE, MA (10/03/2019) (readMedia)-- This week, the town of Brookline transformed old car parking spaces in the downtown business area into "mobility hubs." These hubs provide additional parking for scooters in the busiest parts of Brookline and give riders a clear place to park.

The hubs are a first step in implementing new road safety regulations in Brookline. Earlier this fall, the Select Board empowered town officials to clear double parked cars from the bike lanes and monitoring sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety. With the addition of mobility hubs, Brookline is quickly becoming a micromobility haven in the Greater Boston area.

Lime- the leading U.S. smart mobility company- launched a scooter pilot in Brookline on April 1st with an initial fleet of 100. Following a series of fleet increases, Lime now has 175 scooters deployed as a result of high ridership and unmet demand. With almost 100,000 Lime scooter rides since April, Brookline residents have come to rely on scooters for first-and-last mile transportation, getting them out of cars, and reducing their impact on the environment.

"We've seen tremendous results from Brookline's e-scooter pilot program," said Scott Mullen, Lime's Director of Northeast Expansion. "The success of the town's pilot underscores scooters' ability to fill gaps in existing transportation networks, and is proof that scooters can benefit metro-Boston residents who grapple with the worst traffic congestion in the country. Together, Lime and the Town of Brookline proactively installed safer bike parking corrals and will continue to create a transportation ecosystem that works for all."

"To address complaints about how scooters are parked and to balance safety, we created corrals to ensure scooters are not left obstructing sidewalks," said Brookline Town Supervisor Heather Hamilton. "These digital corrals allow users to know where to park and allow everyone else to move freely and unobstructed."

"As small business owners, we are always trying to figure out how to add more foot traffic, expand our reach and create business visibility to the block. We could not be happier that Lime and Brookline have installed a bike and scooter corral in such close proximity to our donut shop. We see this as just the start of adding more foot traffic and buzz to the 400 Harvard Street block. The more foot traffic and street culture that exists, the more people will be drawn to check out this very special neighborhood in Brookline we are proud to call home." As the largest shared scooter and bike provider in the U.S., Lime currently operates in over 100 markets. Over 100 million rides have already taken place on the Lime platform since the company first launched in 2017. The entire Lime fleet is GPS and 3G-enabled, making it simple for riders to find, unlock and pick up a nearby bike using their smartphone. When the ride is finished, riders simply end the ride with the Lime mobile app and responsibly park by the street curb, mobility hub, or at a bike rack.
