Laborers Recruit Apprentices
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (03/21/2010)(readMedia)-- The Laborers' International Union of North America, Local # 1000, will conduct recruitment from March 22, 2010 through December 31, 2010 for five skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the Local # 1000, 514 Haight Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
The Committee requires that applicants:
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be a high school graduate or have a general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and apprentice classes.
• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by signing an affidavit and physical exam as required by federal regulations for hazardous waste and asbestos removal.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
