DANVILLE , IL (05/15/2014)(readMedia)-- Chastity Osborn, MSN/ED, RN, will become Dean of Nursing for Lakeview College of Nursing beginning June 1. Osborn is a 2004 graduate of Lakeview and has been teaching at the College since August 2010.

Osborn is currently an assistant professor, the student affairs committee chair, the nursing research course coordinator, community health nursing coordinator, and the health records coordinator at Lakeview College of Nursing. While at Lakeview, she has also been involved in teaching nursing foundations, maternal health, gerontology, palliative care, and the RN-BSN orientation.

She holds a master of science in nursing degree with a specialty in nursing education from the University of Phoenix, a bachelor of science in nursing from Lakeview College of Nursing, and she will complete her doctorate in nursing practice from Capella University in December 2014.

Osborn is a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the National League for Nursing.

Osborn has over 15 years of experience in the healthcare field. She has worked on several community health committees and advisory boards and has also held various leadership positions as a practicing registered nurse within Central Illinois healthcare facilities.

In her current role as assistant professor, Osborn successfully wrote a proposal to gain additional space for a planned nurse-managed clinic and developed the first college-sponsored mission trip for public health nursing students, according to Lakeview President Sheila Mingee.

"Professor Osborn demonstrates leadership, autonomy, interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills," said Mingee. "Her expertise will be invaluable as the College looks ahead for future growth."

"Additionally, Professor Osborn's achievements demonstrate leadership excellence which positively aligns with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Future of Nursing report. The report outlines the need to move nursing curricula towards a public health, leadership, and health policy focus for effective nursing education system improvement in the future," said Mingee.

Osborn says she is excited about her new role. "Walking in to the college that provided my foundation and love of learning, nursing, and teaching only supports my dedication to ensure Lakeview's continued growth and quality instruction for new nursing students in the semesters and years to come as the Dean of Nursing."

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity," said Osborn. "As an alumna, I am delighted to offer my experience and insight on behalf of students and the community in the spirit of the College's rich tradition that dates back 120 years."

Osborn has successfully completed the AACN Dean's and Executive Leadership Series. She also has certification through the Association of Title IX Administrators and End of Life Nursing Education Consortium.

Osborn's appointment replaces Irene Steward who has served as the Interim Dean of Nursing since August 2011. Osborn resides in Danville, Illinois, with her husband Dave and two children Mayce and Cale.
