Lakeview College of Nursing Names Louann Lord of Clinton, IL, First Service Award Recipient

DANVILLE , IL (06/16/2015)(readMedia)-- A professor from Lakeview College of Nursing was recently honored with a distinguished service award. Louann Lord of Clinton, IL, was chosen by her peers to receive the award at the College's spring graduation ceremony.
Lord, who has taught at Lakeview for the last 9 years, was the first recipient of this new award. The award was established to recognize alumni, faculty or staff for their outstanding service or academic contribution that furthers the educational mission of Lakeview College of Nursing.
Specific criteria for the nominees included the following:
- Performance and service that has helped set superior standards and efficacy in relation to the mission of the College.
- Performance and service that consistently and substantially contribute an ability and willingness to work positively and effectively with others within the College and community.
- Performance and service that demonstrates the individuals commitment, genuineness, support and empathy to the welfare of self, individuals, families, groups and the community.
- Performance and service that demonstrates honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility, and the ability to apply ethical standards in all area of practices.
Sheila Mingee, Lakeview College of Nursing President, said, "The winner of the distinguished service award for 2015 demonstrates a true commitment to Lakeview, her students, and nursing in her day to day display of the values of adaptability, caring, excellence, integrity and service." Mingee added that she, personally, has reaped the benefits of Lord's contributions to the College and can see why she would receive votes from her colleagues.
Lord has served as a member and chair of the College's student affairs and professional development committees. She has also coordinated the delivery of specific courses for Lakeview. Nonetheless, she was genuinely surprised to receive the award. She said, "I was astonished, extremely humbled, and honored!"
Lakeview College of Nursing students have enjoyed having Professor Lord instruct their "Interactional Dynamics" and "Nursing of the Mental Health Client" courses, according to Lakeview College of Nursing Dean Chastity Osborn. She mentioned, "Louann has extensive experience in the area of mental health nursing and that has been of great benefit to our students."
Lord, who holds a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Illinois, is a certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC) and a nationally certified recovery specialist (NCRS). She also over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health nursing. She has focused many of those years in the areas of children and adolescents as well as substance abuse counseling.
Prior to joining Lakeview, Lord worked for The Pavilion and Carle New Choice. She also has worked for Parkland College and Carle Addiction Recovery Center while employed at Lakeview. She has held several positions over the years including: nurse, case manager, assistant youth director, and student liaison to schools in the Decatur and Champaign areas.
