Lakeview Decides On Accreditation Update
DANVILLE , IL (10/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Lakeview College of Nursing is planning to retain one of its national nursing accreditations and refrain from seeking out the other in order to focus on resources, student programs and services.
Lakeview currently holds nursing accreditation through the American Association Colleges of Nursing Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) as well as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Additionally, the College is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), A Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
"In reviewing our accreditations it became clear that maintaining the accreditation for our bachelor of science in nursing degree program with two separate nursing accrediting agencies is an unnecessary investment of time and resources from our operational and academic staff," according to Dick Shockey, Lakeview College of Nursing CEO.
He explained, "Most BSN programs seek CCNE accreditation and very few schools maintain both NLNAC and CCNE accreditation. We feel that maintaining the CCNE accreditation along with the HLC is the most fiscally responsible decision."
"The CCNE standards and peer review process provide a specialized focus on the quality and integrity of baccalaureate (BSN), graduate, and residency programs in nursing," added Interim Lakeview Dean of Nursing Irene Steward.
Lakeview is accredited with the CCNE through 2021 and the HLC through 2017.
"We are confident that the in-depth review and examination we receive from CCNE and the HLC will demonstrate that Lakeview delivers a high quality nursing education. Employers and graduate schools will continue to seek out our qualified graduates," said Steward.
Lakeview's accreditation status with the NLN will expire at the end of this year and although the College will not pursue renewal, they will retain membership with this organization. The membership with the National League for Nursing will allow the College to stay abreast professional development and grant opportunities, according to Lakeview officials.
Mindy Herrin, Lakeview College of Nursing Director of Assessment, has been named an NLN Ambassador in order to facilitate communication between the NLN and nurse educators at Lakeview.
