Lakeview Receives Approval for BNA Program

CHARLESTON, IL (08/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Lakeview College of Nursing recently received approval to begin offering a basic nurse assistant training program and is currently seeking feedback from those who may have an interest in completing this program through Lakeview.

Those who have an interest in the program are asked to go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LakeviewBNAProgram2012 and complete a 10 question, 1 minute survey where preferences on scheduling, etc., can be indicated.

The BNA program, formerly called a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program, was granted approval through the education and training section of the Illinois Department of Public Health.

This program aligns with the College's mission to be in the forefront of the trends in health care and committed to improving nursing as a profession, according to Irene Steward, Lakeview's interim dean of nursing. "Additionally, the BNA program will allow us to better serve the Charleston community."

Nursing assistants provide basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff. They perform duties such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, or moving patients, or changing linens. They may also transfer or transport patients.

According to salary.com, the average median salary for a basic nurse assistant in the Charleston, IL, Area is $24,825, while nationwide the average is $28,663.

Lakeview's Charleston Campus, located at 580 W. Lincoln Ave. in Charleston, IL, will be the site for the lecture/lab portion of the program. Clinicals will be held in Mattoon or Charleston, IL.
