LATHAM, NY (12/16/2014)(readMedia)-- Lance Ingmire, a Saratoga resident and former President of the Friends of the New York State Military Museum, was recognized for his service to the Division of Military and Naval Affairs during the agency's National Guard birthday celebration on Monday, Dec. 15.

The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs is responsible for the museum.

Ingmire, who served as the president of the group for five years, was awarded The Adjutant General's Award for his work in leading the Friends group.

During his tenure the Friends of the New York State Military Museum conducted a number of fund raising initiatives that garnered over $100,000. The money allowed the museum to construct a permanent Civil War exhibit, preserve historic battle flags, and preserve a historic mural depicting the Battle of Saratoga.

Ingmire established relationships with local business leaders and service organizations during his tenure as president.

"His enthusiasm re-invigorated the Friends board of directors and has attracted new members. His loyal and dedicated support of the museum staff has helped create a museum that chronicles the service and sacrifice of New Yorkers and reflects the proud heritage and traditions of the New York National Guard,"his citation says.

Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, praised Ingmire for his dedication to make the Military Museum an outstanding attraction that tells the story of all New Yorkers service to the nation.

The Adjutant General's Award is presented to employees of the Division of Military and Naval Affairs, and other citizens who make significant contributions to the military forces of New York.

The New York State Military Museum, located in a former armory at 61 Lake Avenue in Saratoga Springs, has a collection of military artifacts that dates back to the Revolutionary War. The museum collects artifacts, documents, photographs, pictures, and books relating to New Yorkers military service.
