POTSDAM, NY (09/29/2011)(readMedia)-- It's not too late to register for the 20th Annual Local Government Conference at SUNY Potsdam. Early registration ends soon.
The 20th Annual Local Government Conference will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the College, and once again, the event will feature a variety of workshops on topics important to public servants and community leaders alike.
All workshops will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Kellas Hall, with a luncheon offered in the Barrington Student Union Multi-Purpose Room at 12:30 p.m.
The keynote speaker for this year's conference is New York State Deputy Secretary of State for Local Government Dierdre Scozzafava.
In addition, Clarkson University President Anthony G. Collins will speak at the luncheon to discuss progress of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council. He serves as co-chair for the regional council along with Garry Douglas, president of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. SUNY Potsdam is the host campus for the initiative.
Sessions for assessors, board members, budget and finance officials, code enforcement officers, community development experts, municipal clerks, planning and zoning board members and public works employees will all cover timely topics. Workshops will focus on everything from finding census data and writing grant applications, to following open government laws and even inspecting solar panels.
This event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. The cost of the conference is $35 for anyone registered before Oct. 3. After that date, the late registration cost is $45 between Oct. 3 and 10. Same-day registration at the Oct. 11 conference is $60.
Registration includes all conference materials, refreshments and lunch. Costs have been defrayed thanks to the support of the conference's generous sponsors, exhibitors and advertisers.
