Latham Resident Andrew Stewart Promoted to Colonel in the New York Army National Guard

LATHAM, NY (11/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Latham resident Andrew Stewart, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, has been promoted to Colonel in the New York Army National Guard.
He was promoted by Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, during a ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 14 at New York National Guard headquarters.
Stewart, who began his military career in 1981 as an enlisted Soldier in the 1st Battalion 210th Armory of the New York Army National Guard, is also a full-time employee of the National Guard, working as a contract specialist.
He is currently serving as safety officer for the 10,500-member New York Army National Guard.
Was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1986 and entered the Quartermaster Corps. He has served as support platoon leader, a material support officer, company executive officer, procurement officer, company commander, supervisory contracting officer.
He served as the J-8, or resource manager, for the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan's Regional Command East in 2008 and 2009. After returning from Afghanistan he was the resource manager for the Troy-based 42nd Infantry Division and then served as environmental branch chief at New York National Guard headquarters.
Stewart's awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, The International Security Assistance Force (NATO) Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Stewart and his wife Mary have a daughter, Amanda.
