Leah Senseney of Gaithersburg Awarded Christine C. Cihlar Memorial Music Scholarship

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (01/06/2014)(readMedia)--  Leah Senseney, a Gaithersburg, Md., native and sophomore at St. Mary's College of Maryland, was recently awarded the Christine C. Cihlar Memorial Music Scholarship. Established in 1994 by Fred Rippy in memory of his wife, the scholarship benefits music students.

At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Senseney is studying vocal performance and educational studies. She hopes to attend graduate school for music administration or vocal performance, or attend the Masters of Arts in Teaching graduate program at St. Mary's College. Her ultimate goal is to move to New York and pursue a career in opera or musical theater. She also plans to someday teach music at the university level.

Outside of the classroom, Senseney is involved in Dance Club, Young Democrats Club, Hillel and Circle K. As a student ambassador, she introduces prospective students to St. Mary's College and leads tours. She also enjoys gardening, knitting and helping out in food kitchens.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
