Lebanon Valley College’s Guitar Ensemble will perform a Guitar Studio Concert Monday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Lutz Hall of Blair Music Center.

ANNVILLE, PA (04/01/2015)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College's Guitar Ensemble will perform a Guitar Studio Concert Monday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Lutz Hall of Blair Music Center. The ensemble features six guitarists with bass and drums. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Guitar Ensemble's underclassmen will begin the performance with "Stare Ljubavi" by Delo Jusic, an arrangement of a Croatian Folk song by the Forrest Guitar Ensemble. The ensemble's upperclassmen will follow with "Green Donkey" by Andrew Forrest, a twist on a South American folk song with many meter changes. The ensemble will then play collectively, beginning with "Romanza" from "Eine Kleine Nachtmusic" by Mozart, arranged for six acoustic guitars. Next is the famous guitar melody "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" by F. Tarrega, embellished by six guitars using "Tremolo" techniques. The ensemble will then play two pieces featuring electric guitars with drums and bass: "The Kook" by J Petersen and "Blues for Ivan" by P. Leitch. All guitarists will additionally perform solo improvisations. "Swing 42" by Django Reinhardt, an acoustic guitar treatment of Gypsy Jazz classic, concludes the concert.

Joseph D. Mixon, adjunct instructor of music, directs the Guitar Ensemble. Mixon studied jazz guitar with Vic Juris, Tony Ventura, and Dennis Sandoli, and classical guitar with Joseph Mayes. He is the house guitarist at The Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pa. Mixon appears regularly at Hersheypark, Musikfest, Steel Stacks, and Mayfair. He is an international teacher and concert artist in Costa Rica, Nepal, and India. He is the founder and director of RPM Music Productions as well as the leader of The Big Wahu Caribbean: a national recording act.
