LVC will host its 14th annual Relay For Life event March 20–21 in Arnold Sports Center.

ANNVILLE, PA (03/02/2015)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College and Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) will host its 14th annual Relay For Life event March 20–21 in Arnold Sports Center. Registration begins at 3 p.m. and the opening ceremony starts at 4 p.m. The event officially ends at 4 a.m. with a closing ceremony and iPad mini giveaway. The event is open to the entire campus community and members of the public.

This year's red carpet inspired event, "Outshine Cancer: Spotlight on a Cure," aims to raise $42,500 for the American Cancer Society from 70 teams of participants. To preregister or make a contribution, visit www.relayforlife.org/palvc. Preregistration is $10 and will be $20 at the door. Participants who raise at least $100 will receive a free event t-shirt. Students are encouraged to sign-up for meal-exchange via Redbook.

Viki Zarkin, a Harrisburg native and cancer survivor, will deliver the opening speech. In 2011, Zarkin's oncologist diagnosed her with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer and told her to go home and get ready to die. For Zarkin, those were fighting words. Today she says, "I'm the luckiest girl around. I just happen to have cancer."

LVC students participate in Relay For Life for many reasons-often because they have lost a loved one to cancer.

Lebanon Valley College senior Michael Meck '15 will share his reason for participating in Relay For Life during the Luminaria Ceremony at 7 p.m. Meck, a member of LVC's swim team, lost his father to cancer in 2013. "I made a promise that I would live through my dad to show him that he did his job here on earth as a father. I relay to honor him and those who feel the effects that cancer causes."

CAC brings the fight against cancer to LVC. Those wishing to honor a friend or loved one during the Luminaria Ceremony can send photos to lvc.cac@gmail.com to be incorporated in a slideshow. For more information about Relay For Life, please contact Jocelyn Davis '15, president, at jmd014@lvc.edu.
