This semester's jazz band features 37 student musicians under the direction of Tom Strohman '75, professor emeritus of music. The band will perform a variety of jazz styles, from the traditional sounds of swing to the rhythmic excitement of Latin and jazz fusion. Selections include works composed and arranged by Oliver Nelson, Billy Strayhorn, Lennie Niehaus, John Fedchock, Matt Harris, Jeff Jarvis, and Bill Liston. Numerous students will be featured as instrumental and vocal soloists throughout the concert.

The LVC Jazz Band was first organized in 1960 under the auspices of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a professional fraternity for men in music. The formative years were spent on campus performing for school functions and serving as an outlet for the musician who enjoyed playing jazz. Since 1961, the campus concerts have become one of the most important school functions. Many top artists have performed with the band, including LVC alumnus Walt Levinsky '51, Jerome Richardson, Bill Watrous, Cecil Bridgewater, Bobby Christian, Bobby Rosengarden, Marvin Stamn, Urbie Green, Arnie Lawrence, Tommy Newsome, Harold Danko, and Roland Vasquez.

Lebanon Valley College offers numerous public performances by students, faculty, and guests of the College throughout the semester, many of them free and open to the public. Visit www.lvc.edu/music/events.aspx for our list of upcoming performances.
