Lebanon Valley College Joins the Common Application

ANNVILLE, PA (08/19/2014)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College has joined the ranks of the more than 500 colleges and universities participating in the Common Application, a nonprofit organization that provides a single application for college-bound students to apply to any of its member schools. Students interested in enrolling at the College with fall 2015 admission can apply now to LVC at www.commonapp.org.

"The Common App streamlines the college application process for high school students," said Sue Jones, senior associate director of admission. "It will expand Lebanon Valley College's reach to hundreds of thousands of students and families who may be seeking an active and engaged education at a regional liberal arts school and were previously unaware of our institution."

The College's admission standards maintain the same level of competitiveness: most accepted students have a challenging schedule of college preparatory courses throughout high school and rank in the top half of their class and/or maintain a B average. Lebanon Valley College has historically attracted and nurtured first-generation college students: there are more than 21 percent first generation students in the incoming Class of 2018.

In the 2013-14 application cycle, the Common App had 813,069 unique applicants, with 28.6 percent of those applicants being first generation college students. Applicants represented 203 countries, with large student cohorts from New York, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Incoming freshman Samantha Watson used the application to apply to many colleges and universities, and said "It was nice to have all my applications in one place, and to not have to fill out the same information for each school separately."

U.S. News & World Report's annual "America's Best Colleges" issue and guidebook has ranked LVC number two in the North in the 'Great Schools, Great Prices' category among 'Best Baccalaureate Colleges.' The Princeton Review named LVC "A Best in the Northeast" college and Forbes named The Valley on its list of "America's Top Colleges."

The Common Application membership association was established in 1975 by 15 private colleges that wished to provide a common, standardized first-year application form for use at any member institution. With the administrative support of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the organization grew steadily throughout its first 30 years.

Today, The Common Application serves over 1 million students and school officials annually through its free online First-Year and Transfer applications. Its membership of over 500 public and private colleges and universities represents the full diversity of four-year higher education in the US and, increasingly, overseas.
