Lebanon Valley College Music Ensembles Announce Fall Performances

Several Lebanon Valley College music ensembles will present fall performances in November that are free and open to the public.

ANNVILLE, PA (10/17/2016)(readMedia)-- Several Lebanon Valley College music ensembles will present fall performances in November that are free and open to the public. All performances will be held in Lutz Hall of the Bertha Brossman Blair Music Center.

An Evening of Woodwinds is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m., featuring four different ensembles.

The flute ensemble is comprised of students from a wide variety of disciplines, including music education, audio & music production, music, chemistry, English, and biochemistry & molecular biology. The group includes one staff member, Beth Julian, director of the center for writing and tutoring resources.

This semester's repertoire includes Jennifer Higdon's "Mountain Songs," Royehi Hirose's "Blue Train," and the favorite Brazilian tune, "Tico Tico." Meghan Owens '17 will conduct "Blue Train." The flute ensemble is under the direction of Michelle Barraclough, adjunct instructor of music.

The Clarinet Choir's selections are "Rikudim" (four Israeli folkdances), by Jan Van der Roost, "Praeludium" by Armas Jarnefelt, "Claribel" by Roland Cardon, and "Difference of Opinion" by Robert Roden.

The Saxophone Ensemble will perform "Celtic Collage" by Paul Harvey, "Simple Gifts," which is a Shaker melody, and "Sax Quartet" by Paul Reade.

Finally, the Woodwind Quintet will play the Allegro Vivace Movement from "Three Shanties" by Malcolm Arnold, "Libertango" by Astor Piazzolla, and the Finale movement from "Quintet in D minor" by Franz Danzi.

Beverly Butts, adjunct assistant professor in music, directs the Clarinet Choir, Saxophone Ensemble, and Woodwind Quintet.

In addition to an Evening of Woodwinds, the Percussion Ensemble will host its fall concert Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

The ensemble will perform "Percussion Music" by Michael Colgrass, "Sinfonia III" by Felix Mendelssohn, "Nocturne" by Alexander Borodin, "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber, and "Portico" by Tom Gauger.

Fifteen students comprise this year's ensemble, which is under the direction of Robert Nowak, adjunct assistant professor of music.
