ANNVILLE, PA (08/29/2014)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College's nationally renowned Physical Therapy Department now offers a public extension in Annville: the Lebanon Valley College Physical Therapy Clinic offers direct access to expert physical therapy care.

"This Clinic is another example of how innovation and the entrepreneurial energies of faculty and students have come together to provide educational excellence," said Dr. Lewis E. Thayne, LVC president. "I am thrilled to see this new, meaningful way for our students and faculty to work with our community."

The Clinic, at 35 W. Main St. in Annville, services the College's Athletic Department, the LVC community, and the community at large. Handicap access and free parking are available in the rear of the building.

Brian Peers serves as Clinic director. A clinical assistant professor of physical therapy and board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist, Peers oversees a team of Physical Therapy Department faculty and students who assist with patient care and some Clinic operations.

"The Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation Clinic will provide a unique clinical education experience for our physical therapy students and future athletic training students," Peers said. "It also provides a venue for collaborative student-faculty research and creates greater community accessibility to the expertise of Lebanon Valley College's faculty."

The Compassionate Undenied Rehabilitation Experience Clinic – or C.U.R.E., will be relocated from Lynch Memorial Hall to the new clinic and will operate on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. C.U.R.E. will continue to serve referred patients of the Lebanon Free Clinic and Volunteers in Medicine Free Health Clinic.

Peers has served as an adjunct instructor of physical therapy for five years at Lebanon Valley College while maintaining a private practice in Lancaster. He also serves as a utilization consultant for multiple insurance companies and has served as an injury prevention consultant for multiple large employers including the U.S. Department of Defense. Peers's research interests include clinical decision-making skills in novice clinicians and lower extremity injury prevention in college athletes.

Lebanon Valley College staff and students and members of the community at large do not need a physician referral to make an appointment, and most insurance plans are accepted. The Clinic will operate for community appointments 9-11 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; and 3-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. These hours will likely be expanded in the future as the demand for services increases. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 717-867-6848. More information is available at www.lvc.edu/ptclinic.
