Lebanon Valley College Selects Wiley as Vice President of Advancement

Janet Wiley has been named vice president of advancement at Lebanon Valley College.

ANNVILLE, PA (11/29/2012)(readMedia)-- Janet Wiley, vice president for development and alumni affairs at Goucher College in Baltimore, Md., has been named as the new vice president of advancement at Lebanon Valley College after an extensive national search. Wiley is a 1980 graduate of Gettysburg College who brings more than 13 years of development experience to LVC. She will begin her duties on January 14, 2013.

"I am delighted that Janet Wiley will be coming to Lebanon Valley College to lead our advancement program. Janet has the experience, energy, and strategic focus to take the program to a new level," said President Lewis Thayne. "Her experience in alumni engagement, campaign fundraising, and leadership development, which includes both Gettysburg College and Goucher College, will move the College's advancement efforts forward in a positive manner.

Wiley is charged with strengthening efforts in alumni and parent engagement as well as increasing the College's gift revenues," added Thayne. "She will also be a member of the College's leadership team and play a key role in LVC's overall strategic planning."

Wiley first joined Goucher as executive director of development in 2007. She was quickly promoted to interim vice president then vice president for development and alumni affairs in 2008. In that role, she led a 29-person team that shattered fundraising goals during one of the most difficult economic times in the nation's history. With an original goal of $80 million for Goucher's most recent capital campaign, Wiley's leadership enabled the college to easily surpass that number in two fewer years than planned, ultimately raising $117 million dollars during the campaign.

At Goucher, Wiley oversaw the implementation of a new development database; the successful launch of the GoucherConnect online alumni community; and the further utilization of social media tools, a divisional blog, and the Goucher Professional Network. She also directed the college's 125th anniversary celebration, additional anniversary events throughout the country, and various other campus building dedications and campus celebrations.

Wiley began her professional higher education career at Gettysburg College in 1999 as a major gifts officer. She quickly advanced through the ranks of her alma mater becoming director of major gifts later that year, then associate vice president of development in 2005. As associate vice president, she held direct responsibility for all major gifts, planned giving, and research functions for programs that resulted in excess of $16 million in fiscal year 2006–2007. She also managed more than 100 top donor prospects, primarily in New York and California, in addition to many other responsibilities.

"Janet's extensive experience and warm personality caused her to stand out among the many candidates who applied from around the country, and even internationally," said William Brown Jr., vice president of enrollment and chair of the search committee. "While we received resumes from Washington, Texas, North Dakota, Arizona, and even Hong Kong, Janet's campaign leadership, enthusiasm, and understanding of our mission led to her recommendation by the committee."

Dr. Owen Moe, Vernon and Doris Bishop Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, served on the search committee. "Among her many talents, we were impressed by the fact that Janet has such a strong record of finding financial support for academic research and other education-related projects. The faculty looks forward to partnering with Janet and her team on grant proposals and other academic fundraising projects."

Wiley is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the American Fundraising Professionals. She also serves as a board member for the Sandra M. Hicklen Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Baltimore, Md.

She has been married to Michael Mulderrig for 28 years and together they have two adult children, Madeleine and Molly. Madeleine completed her undergraduate coursework at Gettysburg College and is a graduate student at Goucher College and Molly is a sophomore at Bucknell University.
