Lebanon Valley College Students Fill 6,000 Colorful Eggs for Community Easter Egg Hunt

Lebanon Valley College will host its sixth annual student-run Easter Egg Hunt for members of the local community at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 22.

ANNVILLE, PA (03/05/2015)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College will host its sixth annual student-run Easter Egg Hunt for members of the local community at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. The event, to be held on the practice fields just north of the main campus, is free and open to the public. In addition to games and face painting before and after the hunt, the Easter Bunny will make a special appearance at the event, and will be available for pictures.

The students will hide the eggs on the field in the hours shortly before the start of the event. Because the hunt will commence promptly at 2 p.m., community members should arrive between 1:30 and 1:50 p.m. Children who attend will be divided into three age groups: 0–3, 4–8, and 9–12. Parking will be available near the Arnold Sports Center, not far from the practice fields. In the event of heavy rain or severely inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.

Members of the student organization Servants of Christ have coordinated with volunteers from other student organizations to fill approximately 6,000 plastic eggs. The eggs contain a variety of small candies, stickers, tattoos, candy bracelets and necklaces, and verses of scripture.

"This year we've enjoyed working with volunteers from the staff of Kohl's Department Store," commented Rev. Paul Fullmer, who serves as chaplain at the College and is the director of community service. "For this project, they've joined more than 40 students to spend hours organizing candy, cutting up rolls of stickers, and filling the eggs with items appropriate for our three age groups. It's been a great community partnership."

Fullmer estimates that more than 1,000 members of the local community gathered for each of the past hunts at the College, bringing more than 400 children with them.

Servants of Christ is the service arm of "Christian Life at LVC," a collaboration of Christian organizations at the College. The group aims to witness to the community and campus through service. Other activities sponsored by the group include Operation Christmas Child, for which they wrap nearly 500 shoeboxes and fill them with toys. The group also organizes service trips during the fall break. Additionally, they organize a Valentine's Day dance for a local senior center.
