Lebanon Valley College Welcomes Artist Stacy Levy
Stacy Levy will present Collaborations with Nature starting Apr. 4
ANNVILLE, PA (03/20/2014)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College will host artist Stacy Levy's collection titled "Collaborations with Nature" at the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery from Apr. 4 until May 18. The opening reception for the event is Wednesday, April 9, 5-7 p.m. with an artist's talk the same day at 4 p.m.
Stacy Levy crosses and connects the boundaries of science and architecture through her art. She earned a bachelor's degree in sculpture and forestry from Yale and an M.F.A. in sculpture from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. This diverse background helps lend a unique perspective to her creative process, inspiring Levy to create art that carries a dialogue with nature. That dialogue helps shed light on the constant momentum of nature that is invisible to the naked eye. This exhibition hones in on how art can collaborate with ecology, in some cases enhancing the natural beauty.
This event is in conjunction with LVC's Earth Days Celebration and is sponsored, in part, by the LVC Sustainability Committee. The first Earth Day celebration in 1970 mobilized public support for environmental protection around the globe. From its beginnings in an era of cultural and political change, environmental art sought to improve our relationship with the natural world. Levy's work has been linked to a variety of movements in the genre including process art, earth art, conceptual art, installation art, and eco art, but in every phase of her career she has focused primarily on educating her viewers and enhancing their connection to the earth.
Also included in this event is a workshop for children. An eco-art activity will be held on Saturday, Apr. 26 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the campus Peace Garden. Children can get inspired by nature and experience mono-printing, as well as enjoy the surrounding nature of the garden. This free workshop will occur during ValleyFest, a weekend long event of music, games, and fun around campus.
LVC Gallery hours are Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m.; Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and by appointment for groups. Schools and other organizations are encouraged to contact the Gallery for a guided visit. Additional information is available at www.lvc.edu/gallery, gallery@lvc.edu, or 717-867-6445.
