Lebanon Valley College invites Community to Learn about Islamic Celebration at Open House

ANNVILLE, PA (04/11/2017) (readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College invites the community to learn about the Islamic holiday Lailat al Miraj at an open house to be held in the lobby of Frederic K. Miller Chapel from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, April 24.

The time will include a viewing of LVC's new mirhab, within a newly renovated prayer room, as well as an altar set for the holiday, a handout regarding the holiday, and a buffet of Middle Eastern foods. Guests are welcome to come as they are able and to stay as long as they wish. The event is free and open to the public.

A presentation about the life of an American Muslim this past December drew more than 80 students and members of the local community. That event, as well as the observance of Lailat al Miraj, are initiatives of LVC students who work with Mohamed Omar, affiliate chaplain for the Islamic community at the College.

"Students anticipate that they will interact with diverse people as they go through life," said Paul Fullmer, chaplain at Lebanon Valley College. "So even though the bulk of students at LVC are Christian, they typically embrace the opportunity to learn about Islam. Interacting with members of the local community in the process greatly enriches the experience."

Pre-registration is not necessary. Please contact LVC's Office of Spiritual Life at 717?867?6135 or email nsmith@lvc.edu with any questions.
