Case teaches American literature at the University of Maine at Farmington. In addition, she has authored many books, including the critical study, American Pragmatism and Poetic Practice: Crosscurrents from Emerson to Susan Howe. Case is also an accomplished poet. Her works have published in Chelsea, The Brooklyn Review, Pleiades, Saint Ann's Review, Wave Composition, The Iowa Review, and eleven eleven. Her latest work, Little Arias, received praise for its "austere and loving, monistic and dialogic" style in a micro review published in the Kenyon Review.

The Green Blotter Literary Society sponsors the series, which brings authors to campus to benefit the local writing community through readings, workshops, and other events. The events are funded by a gift from the late Dr. Agnes O'Donnell, professor emerita of English, who was active at the College long after her retirement. Case is the first author to visit for the spring semester.
