Lebanon Valley College's Gamma Sigma Sigma to Host Out of the Darkness Walk

Event Will Benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

ANNVILLE, PA (03/27/2015)(readMedia)-- This spring, thousands of students across the country will participate in one of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Campus Walks, including one right here at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. on April 11. These fundraising walks help fund suicide prevention research, education programs, mental heath advocacy, and programs for survivors of suicide loss and those affected by mental illness.

Lebanon Valley College students are excited to come together for the College's first Out of the Darkness walk for suicide awareness. Gamma Sigma Sigma, LVC's national service sorority, will host the event for students and the community. The students' fundraising goal is $25,000.

In the United States, youth suicide is a serious national health problem. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people ages 15–24, only accidents and homicides are higher. For college students specifically, suicide is the second leading cause of death, just behind accidents. Lebanon Valley College has recognized that we need to address this public health crisis.

Support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention by participating in the Lebanon Valley College Out of the Darkness Campus Walk on April 11 at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania. Proceeds will benefit local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs. Registration is at the Arnold Sports Field at 5:30 p.m. The walk begins promptly at 7 p.m.
