ANNVILLE, PA (05/18/2015)(readMedia)-- Daniel S. Helwig, dean of college advancement at York College in York, Pa., was named vice president of advancement at Lebanon Valley College after an extensive national search. Helwig brings more than 25 years of experience to LVC, including eight years at York and more than 10 years at Elizabethtown College. He will assume his LVC duties on June 15, 2015.

"Dan's experience in building successful advancement programs will be a tremendous asset to Lebanon Valley College," said Dr. Lewis E. Thayne, Lebanon Valley College president. "His leadership in campaign fundraising, as well as his background in federal and state government partnerships, will be key to the future success of the College's advancement efforts."

"It is a very exciting time to become a part of the Lebanon Valley College Global Network," said Helwig. "I am honored to join the College's leadership team at this pivotal time in LVC's history. I look forward to contributing as the College adds innovative academic programs, develops new partnerships and alumni programs, and expands its sphere of influence regionally, nationally, and internationally."

Helwig's leadership of the development and communications/marketing areas of York College (June 2007 to present) led to record fundraising and improved alumni communications. He partnered with alumni, friends, and government officials on the largest outright gift from an alumnus ($1.8 million), largest planned gift ($25 million), largest outright gift ($5 million), and largest government grant ($4 million).

Prior to York, Helwig spent a year and a half as executive director and chief development officer for the York Health Foundation. In that time, he initiated a targeted major gift campaign for York Hospital, which raised 80% of its goal in just one year.

From 1995 to 2006, Helwig rose through the ranks at Elizabethtown College, starting as a research/grant writer and being promoted four times to become associate vice president for institutional advancement. As associate vice president, Helwig executed a campaign that raised $35 million for the college and made numerous improvements to enhance departmental efficiencies.

Helwig received his bachelor's degree from Susquehanna University and is enrolled in a master's degree program, liberal studies, at Loyola University.

"Dan's leadership throughout his tenure at York has been pivotal in fundraising and friend-raising for the college. His accomplishments in both areas are numerous," said Pamela Gunter-Smith, president of York College. "He has been a valuable member of the senior administration and a trusted advisor, and will be celebrated for assembling a top-rate advancement team and providing an environment in which they, too, can be successful. We wish him every success at Lebanon Valley College."
