ANNVILLE, PA (02/23/2015)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College's professional women's music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), will perform their annual Pickwell concert Sunday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Leedy Theater of the Mund College Center. The performance is free and open to the public, though ushers will collect voluntary donations for a scholarship fund in Pickwell's honor before and after the concert.

This year's concert includes American music of all genres. It will feature compositions by well-known American choral composers, such as Rosephanye Powell, Stephanie Patterson, and Alice Parker, as well as compositions written by some of the organization's own members, such as Selina Seymore '16 and Stephanie George '15. Featured selections include, "Here's that Rainy Day," a jazz standard arranged by Seymore, and a group performance of "Still I Rise" by Powell. SAI is also pleased to announce that LVC's men's music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, will join them to perform Parker's "Hark I Hear the Harps Eternal."

In addition to the group performances of the recital, SAI will feature their members individually and in small groups. The performed genres range from classical and Broadway pieces to well-known pop songs, making the program one to appeal to all different styles of music. The performance also marks the debut of the LVC Jazz Choir: a new, student-run jazz group consisting of eight SAI and Sinfonia members.

The Pickwell recital is an annual concert performed by the women of SAI to honor late LVC music professor, Marcia Pickwell, who had advised the organization for many years. Pickwell joined the LVC music faculty in 1958 as an instructor of piano. She studied at Principia College in Illinois, The Juilliard School of Music in New York, Harvard University in Massachusetts, and the University of Geneva in Switzerland.

In the words of SAI member and Music Director Aileen Koch:

"This recital has always been the most anticipated performance for the members of our organization and we are very excited for this performance. It is a great opportunity for our community to see how our organization truly bonds through the power of music. Having the ability to share that gift with others is something we always enjoy doing and we hope the audience will enjoy it as well."
