Lebanon Valley College's Suzanne H. Arnold Art Galley Presents Clyde McGeary Exhibit May 3

ANNVILLE, PA (04/16/2013)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College's Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery will open its newest exhibition, "Clyde McGeary: Perspectives from an Artist-Educator" with an opening reception Thursday, May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. In the form of a retrospective of McGeary's paintings and sculptures, this exhibition will display his works that have been shown extensively in private, corporate, and university collections.

Born and raised near Pittsburgh, Clyde McGeary began his art education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and continued on with his M.F.A. at Carnegie Mellon University. He completed widespread post-graduate work in art history, arts education, and arts management and served as chief of the Arts and Sciences Division with the Pennsylvania Department of Education. His early work led to the now-popular Arts in Education movement and played a leading role in the creation of the renowned Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts. Furthermore, McGeary has also been a guiding force in the creation of the Susquehanna Art Museum. McGeary is regularly honored for his leadership and vision.

Infused with intellect, wit, references to ancient mythology, and exquisite craftsmanship, McGeary's work not only appeals to viewers' intelligence, but their sensory appetite as well. This exhibition is a retrospective that both provides clues both to McGeary's sensibilities as an artist and attests to the period of his training and emergence in the art world.

In addition to the exhibition, the Gallery will also present an art lecture on June 8 at 10 a.m. "Clyde McGeary: Perspectives from an Artist-Educator" is open from May 3 to June 23.

"Clyde McGeary: Perspectives from an Artist-Educator" is sponsored by William and Mary Louise Dallam, Mary Louise Johnson, Ken and Karen Lehman, Bill and Beverlee Lehr, Clyde and Barbara McGeary, David and Jeanne Reager, Richard and Ann Shull, and contributing members of the Friends of the Gallery.

Gallery hours are Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays from 1 to 4:30 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and by appointment for groups.
