HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/01/2013)(readMedia)-- Lewis D'milo Bell, a senior at Hampden-Sydney College, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Award for 2013-2014, with a posting to Greece. He will be an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) at a school, most likely in Athens.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or English Teaching Assistantships. During their grants, Fulbrighters meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates culural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others' viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.

A Patrick Henry Scholar, Lewis serves as President of both the Future Educators Club and the Classics Club. He was the winner of the Classical Legacy Certamen and participated in the Vergilian Society program and the H-SC summer research program. He is a member of the Society of '91 (leadership program) and serves as a tutor at the Prince Edward County Elementary School. He is also a member of the honorary societies Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), Sigma Tau Delta (English), and Eta Sigma Phi (classics). An English and classics major, Lewis is a graduate of Druid Hills High School in Atlanta and is the son of Kelley Bell of Norcross and Eric Bell of Lithonia.
