Lewis University Mock Trial Team finishes in middle of pack at Indiana Invite
The Lewis University Mock Trial Team, minus some key players, went through rain, sleet, snow, whiteouts and sub-zero weather to participate in the Hoosier Hoedown hosted by Indiana University at the Marion County Courthouse in Indianapolis. Twenty-two teams started, with a few quitting before the completion of the competition. Four former national champion schools (eight teams) participated in it. Neither of the Lewis squads played with their regular line-ups and finished in the middle of the pack, 10th and 12th. The Lewis B squad, led by Michael Noe, finished 10th, closing out with a sweep over Indiana B in the final round. The Lewis A squad started strong with a split with Northwestern and a sweep over Northwood B (one of the former national champion schools). The second day with rounds three and four, proved to be too much with losses to Eastern Michigan and Northwood A. Lewis B was led by Michael Noe, who won Outstanding Witness award with a perfect score and was followed closely by Darrell Boisdorf, who just missed an award. Noe has earned two awards in two weeks. Anthony Scorzo also won Outstanding Witness for Lewis A. Megan Arehart, David DeSchepper and Audrey Donovan also scored well with high ranks. "Overall, the showing of the two teams was not what was hoped for, although they had some positive results. The teams were not playing regular line-ups, with some having to take a completely new role, and with that, some took the lead and played those roles better than previously," commented Head Coach Dr. James Houlihan, professor of Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies and advisor of the Pre-Law program.
