SHREVEPORT, LA (02/28/2014)(readMedia)--  Ten highly qualified prospective students, including Lewisville native Brendan Hartman, were selected to receive Centenary scholarship awards following intensive interviews held during Scholars Weekend on February 21-22.

"This was an extremely positive weekend for our prospective students and family members who received personal attention from our students, faculty, and staff," said Chadd Bridwell, Dean of Enrollment Services. "These students fit in to the Centenary family so well, it felt as if we were welcoming them home and I have no doubt that they will have a successful time on campus. We cannot wait to see them here next fall."

Five students received a phone call from President David Rowe notifying and congratulating them on their prestigious full-tuition Nan Christian Scholarship award:

• Danielle Adams (Lake Mary, Florida)

• Brendan Hartman (Lewisville, Texas)

• Marissa Ferreyros (Natchitoches, Louisiana)

• Alex Shannon (Little Rock, Arkansas)

• Kaity Mussio (Ann Arbor, Michigan)

"I was very happy to hear the good news," said Shannon. "I was almost in disbelief; it is the best news I have received in a long time. I feel blessed to be awarded with such an honor and I am excited for these next four years at Centenary!"

The remaining students received the 1825 scholarship, an impressive award touting thousands of dollars of aid annually:

• Rebekah "LeAnn" Bennett (Simpson, Louisiana)

• Jessica Truong (Shreveport, Louisiana)

• Collin Hughes (Shreveport, Louisiana)

• Nick Sacco (White Oak, Texas)

• Emily Cole (Hot Springs, Arkansas)

The Admission Office welcomed the prospective students onto campus for the annual event with a reception at the Anderson Choral atrium and dinner at the Robinson Film Center. Students enjoyed staying overnight on campus with current Centenary student hosts.
