WESTPORT, CONN. (02/06/2012)(readMedia)-- When it was time for Lexus RX owners to shop for a new vehicle for the 2011 model year, nearly four out of 10 decided to simply buy or lease a newer model of the crossover SUV at their Lexus dealership. That loyalty percentage has put the Lexus RX at the top of the Mid/Full Size SUV category in the 16th annual Polk Automotive Loyalty Awards, marking its sixth win since 2005.
The Polk Automotive Customer Loyalty Awards recognize industry leaders in owner retention, and, according to the automotive researcher, they can be indicative of consumers' overall brand experience. To determine loyalty percentages, Polk analyzes state registration and lease transaction information in addition to the purchasing data of more than 4.5 million households. In Polk's findings, the Lexus RX retained 39.5 percent of its owners shopping for a new vehicle between Oct. 1, 2010 and Sept. 30, 2011.
"Families have stuck by the RX for years because it features sleek styling and all the luxury amenities you could want in an SUV," said Eric Brennan, general manager of Connecticut Lexus dealer New Country Lexus of Westport. "Even though it's been around for quite a while, the RX is still making rounds in the auto-show circuit because it continues to feature a youthful, modern design."
This month, Lexus will have its third-generation RX on display at the Chicago Auto Show, the same venue where the vehicle debuted as a concept 15 years ago. The 2012 Lexus RX 350 features a 3.5-liter V6 engine that creates 270 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. Those weekend-warrior-worthy performance specs combine with the SUV's 80.3 cubic-feet of cargo room and 10 standard airbags to help retain families for a second RX purchase.
Two other Lexus SUVs, the popular GX and newly updated LX, will join the RX at the Chicago Auto Show. Emphasizing the luxury auto brand's new aggressive styling, the 2013 Lexus LX will feature the new signature spindle grille that first appeared on the all-new 2013 Lexus GS sedan. Also set for display in Chicago, the GS features boldly sculpted taillights, a larger cabin and carefully designed interior lighting.
When it goes on sale later this month, the 2013 Lexus GS will also showcase its wider, stronger platform and new lightweight suspension system. Meanwhile, a 306-horsepower V6 engine will propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Buyers will also be able to opt for the Lexus Enform Application Suite and a 12.3-inch high-resolution split-screen multimedia display, the first of its kind in the industry.
"The 2013 GS has already created quite a stir, and we're confident that its fan base is only going to grow once our customers get the chance to get behind the wheel later this month," added Brennan. "Lexus has done a fantastic job redesigning its lineup and crafting a sportier look that appeals to drivers' emotions. That said, our customers will enjoy the refreshed vehicles as much for their plush interiors as their bolder exteriors."
