Light of Wellness Awards Honor Healthy Iowans
Wellness Council of Iowa to Present Individual, Corporate Awards April 15
DES MOINES, IA (03/16/2010)(readMedia)-- The Wellness Council of Iowa's Light of Wellness awards will be presented April 15 at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines to honor inspirational Iowa individuals, leaders and programs that are improving Iowa's well-being.
"The individuals who will be recognized at our Light of Wellness Awards are champions of wellness," said Jenny Weber, the Council's executive director. "Their commitment to making healthy changes in their own lives or in other's lives through leadership, makes a profound difference in the wellness of businesses and communities throughout Iowa."
The following individuals will receive individual awards:
• Mary Schemmel of Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines.
• Melissa Rammelsberg, Lance Grimm, Barb Langguth and Brian Reynolds from Rockwell Collins.
• Deanna Breeding and Jennifer Santiago, both from Wellmark.
• Randy Kruse of Hy-Vee - Windsor Heights.
• Ruth Bushnell, Natalie Chortos and Robert Ford of Pella Corporation.
• Bill East of EFCO, a Pella Company.
Leadership awards will be presented to the following people:
• Dr. David Spreadbury of Des Moines University
• Dr. Richard Deming of Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines
• Stacy Mitchell from Hy-Vee – Bettendorf
• Mary Van Zante of Pella Corporation
• Scott Meyer of Pella Corporation
• Greg Martin from Des Moines Area Community College
Program awards will be presented to McCoy Group and PAETEC Corporation.
The 2010 Light of Wellness Awards Banquet will include a dinner, awards program and keynote address by amazing Iowa adventurer Charlie Wittmack. Wittmack has stood atop peaks in the Andes, Alps, Africa, Alaska and Himalaya, and participated in an incredible variety of adventures across the world, including trekking across East Africa with the Masaii, sailing the Indian Ocean in a handmade boat, and bicycling the United States. He will discuss the people who inspired him on his travels and how they taught him to overcome fear and embrace adventure on the mountain and in life.
