ATLANTA, GA (07/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Oglethorpe University senior Louisa Barama took seventh place at the junior level of this year's U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships held July 21-24, 2011 in Sun Valley, Idaho. The Lilburn native represented Oglethorpe in the competition, which is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and is the longest running collegiate ice skating program. Barama performed a short and long program, and finished the competition with a total score of 70.78.

Oglethorpe was the only college or university represented from the state of Georgia in both the junior and senior divisions of the championship.

Oglethorpe University is an NCAA-member institution that competes at the Division III level. Although OU does not sponsor a figure skating club, the university encourages its student-athletes to pursue their individual sports at the most competitive level possible.

Barama is a graduate of Brookwood High School in Snellville, Ga. and trains with the Georgia Figure Skating Club.

"I am proud of my accomplishment," said Barama, a physics major. "This experience was amazing and I am so glad I finished well. This is a great competition and I really enjoyed every part of it."
